Purple Sequence Question

If the sequence of boxes in the top row were to continue, which of the answer figures in the bottom row would come next?

NEW: For the past couple years, I’ve held off on revealing any submitted answers for at least 2-3 days. While there are ‘pros’ to doing it this way, there are also ‘cons’. For example, many visitors do not want to wait several days to see the answer, and get frustrated.

So starting with today’s question, we’re going to try a new system.

comments will go live immediately
a blue button will need to be clicked before comments/answers are shown; so those who want to try the puzzle won’t easily see the answers
answers can be discussed, debated, or agreed upon in real time
guidance/verification on answers can be had from some of our amazingly talented regulars, who are now more readily identified.
