Kind of a long weekend here in the US, so figured I’d open up a contest for our regular readers: Come Monday morning, the person with the highest score on the smiley puzzle game (challenge mode) will get a free RUNES package.
Smiley puzzle is a lot of fun (although I still struggle getting past level 8!) It’s definitely a brain game, and exercises your pattern recognition ability, visual memory, mental flexibility, concentration, processing speed.
Going to clear the current high scores so we can start from scratch. Also fixed the database/page so that your name only appears once (with your highest score).
Update: Looks like Lola finished 1st, with Ladana a very close 2nd. Anastasia and Suineg weren’t too far behind in 3rd and 4th.
Lola, please send me an email (info@smart-kit.com) so we can arrange to ship out RUNES. Ladana, Anastasia, & Suineg: Good job too; if you’d like a free PLEXUS puzzle or Smartkit Sudoku, let me know and will send.

If you’ve never played Sudoku before, it really is fun- and simple. Rules: Put numbers in the squares so that 1-9 appear only once in each row, column, and 3×3 box.
The basic version of Smartkit Sudoku is free and can be played here.
The full version is $9.95 and can generate unlimited puzzles at 3 difficulty levels. There is a hint button and ‘Print’ ability so you can take & play your puzzles on the go. In addition to ‘pencil marks’, the full version has several additional nice features.
For short while, we’ll throw in our brand new PLEXUS puzzle ‘Medieval” when you purchase Smartkit Sudoku. (Click here to try our 1st PLEXUS puzzle- Olla Podrida).

Here’s a great new flash puzzle designed by SimpleAndy; it’s called I/O. Whereas the unusual jigsaw-like puzzle Olla Podrida works and tests your visual-spatial skills, I/O relies heavily on intuition and creative thinking. Enjoy!

By the way, we’re always looking for high quality, original puzzles, so if you have any you’d like to sell or would like us to sponsor, please let me know info@smart-kit.com. Thanks

This next flash puzzle design (over 2 months in the making!) is a neat twist on the jigsaw puzzle concept. Since we’ve been going kind of heavy on the math/logic brain teasers lately, this should be a nice change of pace (more of a visual-spatial challenge).
If you enjoy this kind of puzzle, and would like to see another on smart-kit in the future, please let me know. Additional feedback & suggestions are always welcome too. Thanks
UPDATE March 8th 2008: We’ve decided to make several more of these PLEXUS puzzles. Be sure to check back soon to play!
[ "Olla Podrida' was inspired by the work of Alex Palmer, who created similar puzzles in the 1960's].

Here is smartkit’s 1st sponsored puzzle game: Ladybird

Unlike many of the earlier puzzle games posted, this one has replay value; a random set of tiles is generated each time you load it up. Although there are 3 difficulty levels, so far I’ve only tried ‘easy’.

Let me know what you think.

Ian let me know about this challenging river crossing puzzle game. The graphics are well done, and the little animations are kind of amusing:
(To play, click on the image and then press the big blue button. Note the rules below!)

Here are the rules:
1. The raft can carry only 2 people.
2. The father can not be left with any of the daughters unless the mother is present
3. The mother can not be left with any of the sons unless the father is present.
4. The criminal can not stay with any family member unless the guard is present.
5. Only the father, mother, and guard know how to use the raft.
Click on the characters to move them on/off raft. Click the red control ball to send the raft across the river.
Couple of answer submissions are already in the ‘comment’ section; try to solve it first before giving in and looking!
Here is an earlier River Crossing Puzzle you can try to figure out.

Here’s Sprout, a really neat Flash puzzle created by Jeff Nusz of New Zealand.

One thing you’ll notice about the game is that there are no instructions- which to me has always been one of the hallmarks of an elegant puzzle. In any case, I’m curious to hear what you think. If these flash puzzle games prove popular, I’ll try to get some more on the site from time to time.
Thanks to Jeff for allowing Smartkit to host his creative & original game.
Warning: Spoilers below!!
