Aha! Nice one!
I was trying to behead, curtail, and replace the same original word (which would have yielded pink, ink, pin, -ink) and nothing was working.
This puzzle has some clever wording. Not “replace my head,” but “re-place my head”.
I also couldn’t figure out how the airplane was a clue until just now.
