Click here to play working memory brain game
For those looking to just have fun, no need to read the information below. However, if you’re interested in brain training you might find the rest of the article interesting.
- Working memory is thought to correlate closely with intelligence (as measured by IQ tests) as well as reasoning and problem solving ability.
- This game is designed to help you exercise and improve your visual working memory.
What is working memory? It is basically your brain’s ability to temporarily hold information in conscious awareness so that you may reflect upon and manipulate it. Working memory is a short-term form of memory, usually lasting just seconds.
Working memory can be divided into various subtypes, including:
- verbal/auditory
- visual/spatial
This brain game focuses on the visuospatial aspect.
Brain regions thought to be involved in working memory include the:
- prefrontal cortex
- parietal cortex
- basal ganglia
Importantly, there has been recent research indicating that working memory can be improved by training.
Over the next several months, will try to introduce several more brain games that can help you train and improve your cognition.

great, just a great game! Thank you!
i have a game for PS2 called okami where you are a wolf with mystical brush powers and one of the enimies you have to beat are called blockheads. they say you shall not get past because he has no weak points and force will not work. if you hit him, everything goes black and white and it shows his weak points across his body as small dots. you have to hit him in the exact spots to kill him and it is just like this (dots are a lot smaller).
Just wanted to share this because it reminded me of this!
The game doesn’t work for me… Neither on IE or FireFox…
this game is hard, i can’t get past level 5 haha. I have another good game, its called Tactics 100, its an online multiplayer game (google it, its on gamebrew.com), you basically have to create an 8 person or less army using 100 points and u can change each character and their health ammounts and power and stats using those 100 points. its very good because you need to use your brain to come up with A. a good army, and B. a good strategy for beating the opponent.
Will look into this, Mihret
this is pretty addicting. ive tried a couple different stragies…in one i put the cursor in the center and divide the playing surface into 4 quadrants–i seemed to be in the general area, but i would barely miss too often. the second, and more effetive way is to mentally connect the dots with an imaginary line, making triangles and quadrilaterals and follow those lines the best you can remember.
i vow to pass level 7 before i quit this.
Nicely done, Doug!
[...] The sequence question above relies heavily on your working memory. Interestingly, the extent of your working memory tends to correlate with IQ test performance. About a year ago we had a brain game made that exercises & tests your visual working memory; you can play it here. [...]
