When strolling through a tract of wheat
I pick’d up something good to eat,
‘Twas neither fish, flesh, fowl, or bone;
I kept it till it ran alone.
What was picked up?

When strolling through a tract of wheat I pick’d up something good to eat, ‘Twas neither fish, flesh, fowl, or bone; I kept it till it ran alone, ‘Twas a honeycomb.
I think the answer is wheat or grains of wheat. The “I” in this riddle is a combine, I think.
maybe it was some food for thought, like an idea…..
Jason- sorry about that, was late in getting around to post that your answer- ‘egg’, is the one listed in the riddle book (over 100+ years old!)
coupland- like your answer “honeycomb” too, seems reasonable.
o i was right on the egg then my siser said i was wrong lol
