The term ‘Beefeater’ is humorously applied to certain functionaries belonging to the Yeoman of the Guard, a body which first appeared at the coronation of Henry VII in 1485. Beefeaters have been stationed at the Tower of London.
Legend has it that there have been ravens at the Tower of London since time immemorial, and if they ever leave, the monarchy and the tower itself will fall.
