SubscribeA study published in the journal Neuropsychology confirms what most neurologists intuitively know:
Even slightly elevated blood pressure leads to brain injury and subsequent memory loss.
Researchers from the Veterans Affairs Boston Health Care System found that healthy men who’s blood pressure exceeded the cutoff for hypertension (140/90) for at least 3 years performed worse on tests of memory function and verbal ability.
High blood pressure ravages the smallest blood vessels that permeate the brain, so that blood can not flow through. When blood can no longer bring oxygen and nutrients to brain tissue, damage and death ensue.
The sad thing about high blood pressure is that many people don’t even know they have it because it does not initially cause any pain or any other strange symptoms.
This is also the very reason why many people who actually have high blood pressure refuse to take their high blood pressure medication. It’s not until it’s too late that they realize their mistake.
That’s why physicians commonly refer to high blood pressure is as “The Silent Killer”.
