Slowly roll the carpet, that should do it.

    Questions:
    1. Can the beer be moved?
    2. If yes, must the beer remain in the bottle?

You can wrap around the carpet until it touches the bottle, then keep doing it slowly, moving the bottle till the edge of the carpet

Stick a straw in the bottle, drink the beer, then just pull the carpet out from under the bottle.

Put a straw in the bottle, drink the beer (or have someone of age do it if you’re under the age of majority in your country), then move the carpet, toppling the empty bottle, but spilling no beer.

I presume by cap it means any type of cover whatsoever that will prevent the beer from coming out… therefore I dont know about anyone else but the only thing I can think of is to drink it all with a straw, and then …..

Get a friend who drinks alcohol, give her a straw and have her drink all the beer. Once the bottle is empty, you are free to roll up the carpet without concern. You even have a friend around now who can help! :)

    1) Wait for the beer to evaporate away, then yank the rug out.
    2) Drink the beer with a straw, then yank the rug out.
    3) Open all the windows and wait for weather cold enough to freeze beer, then yank the rug out.
    4) Roll the rug slowly from one end and let the rolled up part nudge the bottle as you go (If touching the bottle with the rug is allowed.)
    5) If touching the bottle with the rug is allowed, use a corner of the rug like a pot-holder and pick up the bottle.
    6) If touching the bottle which anything except you is allowed, just get an actual pot-holder and pick up the bottle.
    7) Or ask someone else to pick it up.
    8) Or put the cap back on… I’m not really sure about the rules of this game.

Ok I think this can be solved at least in 2 ways:

    1) Put a glove in any hand, grab the bottle with the hand that has the glove, and then remove the carpet (you are not touching the bottle, the glove is).

    2) Using a straw and very carefully zip all the content of the beer woithout touching the bottle, and then when the bottle is completely empty, take the carpet slowly so the bottle roll in the opposite direction from where you are grabing the carpet and takke away the carpet, cool.

    I prefer option 2.

I didn’t comment earlier as I fully agree with Mashplum about the rules of this puzzle.

On the other hand, I say drink the beer and move on with your life :D

…and the most popular answer is…
    drum roll please

pull very hard on the rug and hope you have not created enough friction to spill the beer…

oops that’s a smelly stain now!

    Hee hee!

Lots of creative solutions above, all of them valid.
Unlike mathematical puzzles, most lateral thinking puzzles lack of a unique solution or lack of rules…which may bother some of you :-)
…most of everyday life problems also lack of a unique solution or lack of rules

  13. Hex | PUZZLE MASTER | Profile

Now that I understand the rules, or rather the lack of them, here are a few more lateral thinking creative solutions:
    - Wait for a cyclone/typhoon/hurricane to suck the beer bottle up
    - Make a hole in the ceiling, put around the beer bottle small rockets and send it into outer space
    - Flood the room with beer. After all, beer cannot be spilled in beer
    - Put chewed bubble gum in the bottleneck to clog it
    - Attach magnets to the bottle and make it levitate using electro-magnets
    - Lift the carpet and hence the bottle into outer space. No gravity -> so spilling
    - Heat the beer bottle extensively to turn it into plasma
    - Cut a hole in the rug around the beer bottle…well you get most of the rug :D

@Bilbao, keep the puzzles flowing in :)

    Other possibilities:
    1) Unravel the carpet, thus removing it one thread at a time.
    2) Burn the carpet (keeping the temp low enough so the bottle doesn’t liquify and the beer doesn’t boil away), then blow away the ashes.

What are you guys doing to my poor carpet :agape

  16. bilbao | Profile

You are all full of creativity and imagination…:-)
As a second step, you only need to tune your solutions now taking into consideration the cost ($$$) of each of them…and decide which is the best one

  17. Hex | PUZZLE MASTER | Profile

No rules means no rules! On the other hand, you can argue that no rules means nothing prevents you from doing something such as the adding of a rule. This is left as an exercise to the reader… :)

Anyway, word has come out that RK is willing to finance some of the costlier solutions. After all, his carpet is priceless :D

  18. Hex | PUZZLE MASTER | Profile

@Bilbao, What is the solution you had in mind?

  19. bilbao | Profile

@Hex, the one I had for this puzzle is slowly roll the carpet until you push the bottle to the edge of the carpet

  20. Rashmi | Profile

Use a knife and cut the round part of a carpet which is occupied by bottle’s base. and life the carpet. bottle remains on the round piece. rest of the carpet is free. (there is no condition of keeping the carpet intact, it just needs to be freed)

  21. Rashmi | Profile

You can then attach the torn piece too.. :p

Hey, that looks like my old carpet! I’d send my ex-husband over to get the beer, but he’d probably spill it all over and ruin the rug. Pull the rug out really fast? Use a straw? Wait… I saw something like this on the Big Bang Theory…. May I use a straw?
