[...] If you’re new to the site, a couple months back we presented this short riddle, and not too long ago this very hard but compelling word riddle. [...]
I know this is a bit late, but it wont go out of my head that it could be a dandelion blowball and/or its seeds.
‘I have many feathers to help me fly.’
Don’t the seeds have ‘feathers’ in a way?
‘I have a body and head, but I’m not alive.’
the seeds have a stem and a ‘head’, can they be classed as alive, before they have settled?
‘It is your strength which determines how far I go.’
‘your’ is a matter of definition again, could be the wind or a person blowing. Depending on how strong and how constant it is, the distance varys.
‘You can hold me in your hand, but I’m never thrown.’
It is more likely, that a arrow is thrown, while playing a game of darts for instance, than a blowball. Or even a single seed?! The dandelion is picked held in the hand and the seeds are blown off.
The only thing that makes me reconsider this, is the fact that later life isn’t mentioned, or the quantity of the seeds. But otherwise i think it would suit the very ‘sensitive’ and maybe a little ‘helpless’ sounding object in that riddle. An arrow seems a bit too sharp and the speed would be missing in my opinion.
I like your answer, and think it’s a very good alternative solution.
If you look at some of the other riddles we’ve posted (http://www.smart-kit.com/scate.....s/riddles/) this sort of thing crops up from time to time. I’ve always found it interesting how when many minds tackle a problem, 2nd and even 3rd answers become evident. Not something you come across in the typical puzzle book…

An arrow.

A badminton suttle

I think I have to agree with the arrow. You can still throw a shuttlecock.

Hi there, Dani-

If not arrow, possibly a cloud?
