Meditation can grow the size of your brain

A recent study out of Massachussetts General Hospital found that meditating actually increases the thickness of the brain in areas involved in attention and sensory processing.

Interestingly, the study also found evidence that meditation may slow down shrinkage of the brain due to aging.

[...] Not too long ago, I posted how over the long term, meditation can actually increase the size of the brain. Specifically, it thickens the cerebral cortex in areas important for attention and concentration. [...]

Yes, I agree but it grows that which has shrunk I believe. I also believe that meditation or any thinking activity regardless of the state one is in will stop a degenerating brain from shrinking. That is why when we humans grow old we cease to indulge ourselves in mind-brain activities thus causing that person to grow older more quickly and showing signs of senility.

Not sure if there is a research paper made on the following but it’s reasonable to say that if we keep ourselves active and the mind proactive throughout our lives then we will not only look younger but we will also be carrying on the intellectual capacity that we create throughout our lives.

One only needs to look at a University Professor to see how the mind-brain of one has stayed functional and powerful right through his/her life.

In another article i’ve commented that the brain will make more connections as more and more thought processes are made. When the brain makes more connections on the cell levels between the neuron that invariably increases the size of an existing brain giviing one the illusion that the brain has actually grown.
