Left Handed People can think more quickly

A new study claims that left handed people might be better at:

  • Talking while driving in heavy traffic
  • Piloting jet fighters
  • Playing fast video games

The authors find that lefties are “better able to use both sides of their brain” and “are more efficient when dealing with multiple stimuli”.

However, based on the design of the study, I would say the authors have found this left-handed advantage to be true for visual information, but not necessarily other modalities such as mathematics, language, proprioception, etc…

Also interesting: Chris McManus(University College London), author of Right Hand, Left Hand, claims:

  • The proportionof left handers is rising and
  • Left handers tend to be higher achievers

Well growing up as a video gamer, and being left handed, I can say that I have done pretty well in video games always achieving the highest scores, and the same goes with flight simulators. However I can barely pay attention to people who are talking to me when I drive so I guess that may debunk that theory. I would think that females are better with driving and talking. This ofcourse is from the documentaries that I’ve seen, explaining how women use both parts of their brain and are better with multitasking, where as men mainly use one part at a time (not to sure on the details). Which is probably why it is hard to talk to me when I’m also on my computer, watching TV, or driving. :)
