In in the process of testing out some new site design ideas. The regular ‘log in’ box on the homepage has been removed, but you can still log in by:
- clicking on any post title
- scroll down a bit to comment section
- there is a red bar with a link to ‘log in’ or ‘register’ if you are new.
This red bar and link were mysteriously invisible yesterday and today, but have fixed things this evening. Sorry about the confusion.

Now you say that? I went nuts yesterday figuring out where they were, and why they were invisible (once I found them) lol
btw, the main page does not give any summary about the puzzles, nor whether any comments have been posted.
Hey there Hex- Mashplum said the same thing, even wondering if the invisibility was another intentional puzzle!
the main page does have its limitations, and still may change things once I get a better feel for how things go. Have been trying to make the post titles more descriptive-ie, ‘game’, ‘math’, ‘easy’, etc… Would be fairly easy to put a little # at the end of each post that indicates number of comments, good suggestion, will probably add that on.

# of comments is good, but sorry to say that it is nowhere as good as the old one. Having a picture and a few lines describing each puzzle are priceless. Check any popular flash games website.
This is of course just my opinion.

we’re going to be adding a few of the old things back, Hex. However, 1 problem with the typical blog format (old/original smartkit design)- where the full picture shows, and then you have all the text- is that if you put up 3 new puzzles, the older items (that remain unsolved) kind of get buried and forgotten about… Plus, it’s hard when you come to the site to see at a glance what’s new since the last visit…

The website is great as is. I can however suggest some minor things:
- Since the recent comments section has proved to be an invaluable addition, its shortcoming is that revealed posts that were awaiting moderation (especially in hard puzzles), do not appear at the top of the recent comments, rather get buried deep due to their older dates. It would be good to have a special comment advertising that a puzzle’s comments have been revealed.
- Main page: The puzzle’s date on the main page would be helpful.
- The recent replies in the member’s profile are always numbered 1 to 30, even if there are several pages. I assume they should be 1..30 on 1st page, 31..60 on the 2nd, etc…
- My settings are such that I am always logged on. At times, I get logged-out for no apparent reason. Logging back in brings me to the change profile section instead of back at the page where i was, or worse comes to worst the main page.
- A link that shows available emoticons would be handy. Shameless me as i almost always copy emoticons from other posts.
- This may be harder, but is standard on many BB’s: A preview button would show how the post will look like before it is posted (useful with emoticons).
- Search box on main page: I have entered hastily quite a few times a search string in the “subscribe to Smart-Kit” box. Maybe the search box should be placed above the subscribe box?
- There is no link to a logged in member’s own profile (userCP or whatever).
If you don’t like any of the above, you can go ahead and sue me
Otherwise, keep up the good work!
Ah, more things:
- In each puzzle, posts should be numbered (#1 to #…), with the numbers being a hyperlink to the post. Currently, the date is the hyperlink to the post.
- Is the beta in red in each post still needed?
